Who Builds Roller Coasters? Meet the Manufacturers

When a theme park announces a brand new roller coaster, you might assume the park builds it themselves.

But in most cases, the park actually hires a roller coaster manufacturer to design and build the ride.

The Role of Coaster Manufacturers

Companies that specialize in coaster design handle things like:

  • Engineering
    Manufacturing
    Installation

Parks work with these companies to bring the ride concept to life.

A Famous Example

A great example is Incredicoaster.

The ride was originally known as California Screamin’.

Disney Imagineers developed the concept and ride layout, but the coaster was manufactured by Intamin with engineering support from Werner Stengel.

Finding Your Favorite Manufacturer

One fun thing coaster fans often do is look up who manufactured their favorite rides.

You might discover you already have a favorite company.

For example:

  • Rocky Mountain Construction
  • Bolliger & Mabillard
  • Intamin
  • Vekoma

Each has its own style and reputation.
