Getting to see a roller coaster up close is one of the coolest experiences you can have as a coaster enthusiast.
So when I had the chance during Coaster Con to take a behind-the-scenes tour of The Joker, I jumped at it immediately.
It’s my favorite coaster in the park, and this tour took us somewhere guests normally never get to go.
Inside the Coaster’s Infield
The tour happened early in the morning before the park opened at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.
We had to wear bright orange safety vests and follow strict instructions about where we could walk.
Once inside the coaster’s infield, we were surrounded by the twisting track and wooden structure.
Seeing a coaster like this from ground level — inside the layout — gives you a completely different appreciation for the engineering.
Seeing an RMC Up Close
The Joker was built by Rocky Mountain Construction, often called RMC by coaster fans.
From far away, RMC coasters look impressive.
But when you’re standing right underneath the structure, you really start to notice the incredible details:
- The steel track shaping
The wooden support structure
The precision of every connection point
It’s honestly like looking at a piece of art.
Asking Questions and Taking Photos
The Six Flags team gave us plenty of time to explore the area, take photos, and ask questions.
Of course I had to take some silly photos too — because when are you ever going to get the chance to stand inside a roller coaster layout like that again?
Why These Experiences Matter
Moments like this remind me why I love being a coaster enthusiast.
When you see how much design and craftsmanship goes into these rides, it makes riding them even more exciting.

Final Thoughts
Seeing The Joker from inside the structure made me appreciate it even more than I already did.
If you ever get the chance to do a behind-the-scenes coaster tour, I highly recommend it.
And yes — I could have stayed there all day.
